ANDRES SANCHEZ

I have a vivid memory of being in Preschool, maybe 4 years old. Misses Rosa had given us some pages to color in; a photocopy of a coloring book, probably, a tree branch with lemons and leaves with the sky as the background. I remember my mom and my teacher then talking about how much I enjoyed drawing and painting, and don’t ever remember wanting to do anything else.

Born and raised in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, with a family that has always supported my artistic endeavors. Both my parents and my sister are creative, and my extended family have always had artistic hobbies and pastimes that really inspired my work. Thanks to their help and encouragement I found myself attending my dream school of Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), The University of Creative Careers in their main campus in Savannah Georgia. I absolutely fell in love with the city and drew a lot of inspiration from it in my day to day artwork.

In 2018 I finished my degree in illustration from SCAD. Through my studies I focused on my workflow and process and being sure to learn as much software and techniques as I could get my hands on. Thanks to my education I consider myself a multifaceted artist capable of creating work in different styles and techniques. Versed in sculpture, painting, drawing and more than proficient with the Adobe Suite.

With my work I try to focus on the efficiency of every stroke put onto page. I largely prefer to work in chalk as I’ve found it to be the best medium to transfer the energy of my movements onto the page; It’s an incredibly versatile material that allows me the chance to block in colors and shapes quickly which is the basis of my work.
